HR Manager

SUMMARY HR managers (HRMs) are aligned with two to three clients and are accountable for handling the day-to-day HR, payroll, and benefits administrative workload, and provide ongoing employee relations support, for each of their clients. They coordinate and lead weekly meetings (typically via conference or zoom call) with their clients to discuss their current HR and payroll challenges, create policies and processes to ensure they have the best people systems and practices, and provide ongoing solutions and support to help them have HR and people success. HRMs are part of a small team (4-6 people), called a “supergroup”, and report directly to a Sr. HR manager. Specifically, the HRM is responsible for the following day-to-day activities for their clients: HUMAN RESOURCES ADMINISTRATION & COMPLIANCE

  •  Create/update employee handbook
  • Create/update job descriptions
  • Communicate HR policy & procedure updates
  • Handle criminal background checks
  • Audit and manage state and federal HR regulations:
  • Labor Law Posters & Notices
  • Ban the Box & Salary Ban
  • Minimum Wage & Overtime
  • Rest, Breaks, & Meals
  • Child Labor Law
  • Safety & Sanitation
  • Record Keeping (HR/payroll/benefits)
  • Paid Sick Leave, LOA, FMLA, USERRA
  • Required Harassment (Other) Training
  • Others as applicable

PAYROLL ADMINISTRATION & COMPLIANCE

  • Manage payroll data entry of new hires, terminations, and status changes
  • Process weekly or bi-weekly payroll transmission
  • Handle W-2 and 1099 administration
  • Answer and resolve all employee payroll related questions/problems/issues with pay
  • Track and manage paid time off (PTO)/vacation/holiday pay
  • Handle administration, compliance, and tracking of paid sick leave
  • Handle employment verifications
  • Set up and process payroll garnishments
  • Ensure I-9 compliance + conduct annual audit (set up/maintain E-Verify if applicable)
  • Maintain and ensure employee file accuracy and compliance
  • Work directly with client’s HRIS/payroll company

BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION & COMPLIANCE

  • Manage Health, Life & Disability Insurance Annual Renewal/Open Enrollment
  • Handle administration and communication of retirement savings program
  • Manage administration of Workers Compensation claims and handle Annual Renewal
  • Affordable Care Act Compliance
  • Track, process, and manage COBRA administration
  • Track, process, and manage LOAs, FMLA and USERRA
  • Oversee and manage Unemployment Claims
  • Work directly with client’s insurance broker/companies

OTHER IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel to client(s) locations periodically
  • Ability to work remotely, but also attend in-person meetings in the Chicagoland area as needed
  • Ability to do seated work at a computer for 8-10 hours per day (or as required based on client and company needs)
  • Must have the ability/stamina to work a minimum of 40-50 hours per week

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • 3+ years of experience in HR, payroll, and/or benefits
  • Degree in HR, Accounting, or other business-related field preferred (or relevant experience)
  • Restaurant/multi-location and state experience a plus
